50% of the problem is the potential for this problem to happen to my car, the other 50% is the way my local Mazda dealer will handle it. With small service work, recalls for the oil dip stick change, exhaust pressure change, software updates etc, my local dealer has been a nightmare.
Here is an example. I was called by my dealer a few weeks ago, they said my car should be brought in for a free "software update". I asked them for some details and they said it just a small update. They needed the car for a full day. So it went in on the 26.05. I check the oil level regularly, I know the oil was about 3mm above the full level and stable. After the software update, I check the oil, it was a little below the full level. I thought maybe they changed the oil, but never followed up on this (my wife collected the car and I forgot to read the digital service paper). Anyway, a few weeks later, I thought I should get the 3 year service done. Since I just extended the warranty two years, I thought it's best to get the service on time. I booked it in for a service on 11.06.
After the service, I asked what was done, the handler said oil and oil filter change, liquid level controls. I asked for a service report and they said it's all digital so can't give me anything.
I do have a small paper digital service report though. I had a look at that and I am quite surprised!
Software update on the 26th May shows oil and oil filter changed.
Service on the 11th June shows oil and oil filter change.
I am thinking that this software update was maybe something bigger, but they didn't want to tell me.
I also think there is a chance they didn't change the oil this time as they done it 2 weeks earlier, but they will bill me for it!
So next week I need to go to the garage and ask for an explanation. If I don't get a clear answer, I will go to another dealer.
Anybody any idea's about this software update? I already had the software done for the oil level rise problem about 1 year ago.
Then I need to ask about the camshaft turbo failure inspection. Does anyone know if this is a standard check (and gratis) inspection for cars that are effected.
See the attached service sheet.
Thanks for any advice, apologies for not writing this in German, I can read it fine, but writing is a headache
